With its beginnings as a component of the established ReelWorld Film Festival, ReelYouth – Take One was designed with the primary goal of educating, enhancing and supporting youth, particularly in under-resourced communities in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). We foster and encourage self-expression by introducing young people to the many facets of the Canadian entertainment industry. Working with youth-oriented organizations such as East Scarborough Boys and Girls Club, Leave Out ViolencE (LOVE), St. Lawrence Community Recreation Centre and Regent Park Community Centre, ReelWorld Foundation showcases films and presents special workshops which bring an uplifting message to Toronto's youth, introducing them to potential career paths in the entertainment industry. ReelWorld is committed to giving youth from our many communities the opportunity to empower themselves through their creativity. By arming them with creative tools and skills, opportunities to express themselves in productive ways are multiplied. In order for the Canadian entertainment industry to grow and flourish, it is vital that young people are trained and encouraged to pursue careers in the sector. Many young people are not aware of the multitude of career options in the industry, and ReelWorld Foundation hopes to forge these relationships. The ReelYouth - Take One initiative is broken down into two components – sessions during the annual ReelWorld Film Festival and events produced year round.
